BELIZE DISTRICT

HOUSE FIRE       

On the 6th of August 2017 at about 9:15pm, CIB personnel responded to a fire at #32 Santa Barbara Street, Belize City, where they saw two wooden structure houses and a two-story concrete downstairs with wooden upstairs house completely engulfed in flames. Fire department personnel managed to extinguish the fire. The houses and all their contents were completely destroyed. Shanica ROBERTS, 20 year old Belizean Domestic, reported that she left home leaving her 21 months old child sleeping inside her house and upon her return, about five minutes later, she saw fire coming from inside. She stated that she tried to enter the room where her child was, but the fire was already out of control. The child perished in the flame. The body of the unnamed child was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead and now lies at the morgue awaiting a post mortem examination.

FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

On the 6th of August 2017 at around 7:36pm, Police responded to a scene at the Crooked Tree Village junction, Mile 31 Philip Goldson Highway, where they saw a creole descent female lying on the right hand side of the highway. The victim, identified as Alma FLOWERS, 19 year old Belizean Student, had injuries to the head, right shoulder and left foot. FLOWERS was pronounced dead by Dr. Flores at the KHMH.  Initial investigation revealed that she alighted a bus and was about to cross the highway when she was knocked down by a vehicle coming from the direction of Orange Walk to Ladyville. The driver of the vehicle was Leonel Del VALLE, 25yrs, a Notice of Intended Prosecution was served on Del VALLE and blood sample was obtained from him.
