COROZAL DISTRICT
POLICE OFFICERS CHARGED FOR EVADING CUSTOMS
On Saturday, 8th April 2017, the Corozal Police received a video from Custom Officers from the Northern Border Station which showed a police vehicle being pursued by Custom Officers. They reported that, on the said date at around 2:00pm, two police officers inside a police vehicle were transporting a black bag in the pan of the pickup when they refused to stop at the checkpoint and was subsequently pursued by Custom Officers. However, the vehicle diverted into a feeder road and evaded the officers. Whilst on the feeder road, the Custom Officers recovered a black bag matching the bag that was being transported in the vehicle. It was taken to the Corozal Police Station where it was opened and found to contain an assortment of slippers, socks and underwear. The driver of the police vehicle was identified as Police Constable 885 Elston ROJAS and the vehicle commander was Police Corporal 263 Abner MARROQUIN. The Commissioner of Police has since directed that an investigation into the matter be conducted. This resulted in both officers being charged with Prejudice to Good Order and Discipline and they were placed on interdiction from duty.
ORANGE WALK DISTRICT
FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
Acting upon information received of a road traffic accident which occurred at 12:00pm on 8th April 2017, police visited the Northern Regional Hospital where they saw the body of Johan H. THIESEN, 6-year-old of Ship Yard Village, Orange Walk District. Investigations revealed that Johan was onboard a horse and buggy, along with his 4 siblings (10-year-old Jacobo THIESEN, 1-year-old Gerrado THIESEN, 7-year-old Pedro THIESEN and 4-year-old Heinrich THIESEN) on the Ship Yard and Indian Creek Village road when a Dodge Ram pick-up, being driven by Jose Felipe CUELLAR, 27-year-old of August Pine Ridge Village, collided into the horse and buggy causing it to flip over. Johan sustained head and body injuries and succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. Heinrich THIESEN sustained a cut to the back of head and abrasions to left ankle and is receiving treatment at the Northern Regional Hospital. Jacobo THIESEN who was in control of the horse and buggy sustained minor injuries along with Pedro THIESEN and Gerrado THIESEN. They were treated and released from the hospital. Police investigations continue.
BELIZE CITY
ARSON
At 3:40am on 8th April 2017, police visited #7078 Maskall Street, Belize City, where 71-year-old Robert RAMCLAM reported that he was at home sleeping when at 3:30am on the said date, he heard noises coming from his shop located about 6 feet away from his house. Upon inspection, he saw a person walking away from his shop and immediately noticed that his shop was on fire. With the help of his neighbors, he managed to bring the fire under control and personnel from the Fire Department extinguished the fire. The building was partially damaged. The value of the damages has not yet been ascertained. Police investigations continue.
BURGLARY
On 6th April 2017 at about 8:30am, the owner of American Merchants reported that between the hours of 6:00pm on 5th April 2017 and 8:00am on 6th April, 2017, person(s) broke into his business place on Magazine Road and stole an assortment of electronic items, cosmetic items, men clothing and other items. Police investigation continues.
CAYO DISTRICT
SHOOTING INCIDENT
At 1:10am on 9th April 2017, police visited a restaurant located on Bishop Martin Street, Santa Elena Town, where they saw Deon GONGORA, 24-year-old of Hillview area, Santa Elena Town, suffering from a gunshot wound to the left side of his face. Initial investigations revealed that GONGORA was sitting on a picnic table in front of the restaurant along with a male person when they were approached by another who fired a single gunshot at GONGORA causing his injury. GONGORA was transported to the San Ignacio Town Hospital and later to the Western Regional Hospital where he was admitted in a critical, but stable condition. Police investigations continue.
ROBBERY
On Friday, 7th April, 2017, acting on information received of an armed robbery, police visited Circle R Product establishment, located at Mile 44 on the George Price Highway, Cayo District, where they spoke with the manager. He reported that around 2:24pm, he was inside the business establishment when two male persons entered asking for him. The male persons then reportedly pulled out a black revolver and pointed it at him and escorted him inside his office where he was hit to the head with the revolver. Meanwhile the other male person jumped over the counter and stole $800.00 in cash along with (1) black Samsung Galaxy S4 Cellular phone, which is property of the company. A quick police response led to the arrested 28-year-old Florentino RUIZ and 21-year-old Abraham VELLOS, both of Belize City, for the crime of robbery. Also a .38 revolver was recovered; believed to have been the weapon used in the crime.
MISSING PERSON
On Sunday, 9th April 2017 at 12:30pm, Debora BROWN, 54-year-old Domestic of Another World area, Roaring Creek Village, reported that since 6:00pm on Saturday, 8th April 2017, she last spoke to her 27-year-old son, Orlando SEDACEY. She has not seen or heard from him since he left her house on Saturday, 8th April 2017, reportedly on a bicycle. SEDACEY is of dark brown complexion, about 5 feet 9 inches in height, slim built and has a low haircut.Police investigations continue.
