BELIZE CITY

SHOOTING INCIDENT

On the 27th of March 2017 at around 9:00pm, police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw Daniel Paul LAWRENCE, 40-year-old Police Corporal # 470 attached to Strike Team South, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Investigations revealed that he was asleep in his room, with his license 9mm Glock pistol under his pillow when it accidentally discharged causing his injuries. LAWRENCE is admitted to the KHMH in a stable condition.

THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE

The Director of Operation at St. John’s College, Belize City, reported that between the hours of 4:45pm on the 26th of March 2017 and 7:00am on the 27th of March 2017, someone stole a red two doors cab and half Ford Ranger pickup truck with license plate number BCC 49986 (registered in the name of St. John’s College) that was parked about 30 feet from the main entrance security booth. Police are investigating.

CAYO DISTRICT

KEPT FIREARM WITHOUT A GUN LICENSE

On the 27th of March 2017 at 9:15pm, Police were on mobile patrol on Orchid Street, Santa Elena Town, when they pursued a black Meilun motorcycle being driven at the time by Joel SIERRA, 27-year-old of Santa Elena Town, and passenger, Kristy WESTBY, 24-year-old of same address. Upon reaching at the intersection of Orchid Street and Mariana Gonzalez Street, SIERRA lost control of the motor cycle hitting at an edge of a culvert. A silver object dropped from him and it was observed and found to be a silver and black Ruger P89 9mm pistol with a black magazine which contained (12) 9mm round. Police have since arrested and charged Joel SIERRA and Kristy WESTBY, jointly, for the offence of “Kept Firearm without a Gun License and Kept Ammunition without a Gun License”.
 
DANGRIGA TOWN

FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

On the 26th of March 2017 at about 2:10am, police responded to a fatal accident which occurred between miles 8 and 9 on the Stann Creek Valley Road. They visited the Southern Regional Hospital where they saw Rogelio PEREZ, 61-year-old Guatemalan of Hope Creek Village, who had died as a result of the accident. Initial investigation revealed that on the 25th of March 2017 at about 5:00pm, PEREZ left his residence on his bicycle riding on the side of the road when he was hit by an unknown vehicle and was left on the scene. Mr. Rogelio PEREZ received multiple head and body injuries and as a result, succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 2:00am. Police investigations continue.

INDEPENDENCE VILLAGE

MURDER

On the 26th of March 2017 at 10:30pm, Police visited Santa Cruz Village where on arrival at Los Amigos bar, they saw Ostin ZAVALA, 23-year-old Belizean Construction Worker of Bella Vista Village, on the road side in front of the establishment suffering from a cut wound to his chest. Investigation revealed that ZAVALA arrived at Los Amigos Bar around 10:00pm and saw a male person attacking the owner of the establishment. ZAVALA intervened and was fatally stabbed in the process.  Police have detained one person as investigations continue.
