FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
On the 22nd of March 2017 at 8:15am, police visited an accident scene between miles 57and 58 on the Phillip Goldson Highway where a pickup truck and a motor cycle collided; fatally injuring the motorcycle driver. On the scene was a White 4-door 2001 Ford Ranger Pickup which was driven at the time by Hernan CORTEZ, 31-year-old Laborer of Orange Walk Town. About two feet away in front of the pickup was a white 125 cc 2014 Meilun Scooter which had extensive damages to the front portion. It was driven at the time by Matthew James COCOM, 25-year-old Laborer of Trial Farm Village, who suffered severe head and body injuries. Investigations revealed that COCOM was driving towards Orange Walk from the direction of Corozal and was apparently overtaking a cane truck and did not notice that the white Ford Ranger Pickup was coming in the opposite direction and collided head on into it. His body was then transported to the Northern Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead on arrival at 9:36am. Hernan CORTEZ was served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution.
