COROZAL DISTRICT

KEPT FIREARM AND AMMUNITION WITHOUT A GUN LICENSE

On the 22nd of January 2017 at 1:30am, police were conducting mobile patrol in the Skeleton Town area when their attention was drawn to Jair TAMAI, 18yrs, who threw away an object resembling a firearm and a cap in a drain and made good his escape. Police then retrieved the object which turned out to be a.38 Special containing (2) Aguila .38 Special live rounds and one expended shell and a black cap. On the 22nd of January 2017 at 8:39am, TAMAI was arrested and charged for the offence of “Kept Firearm without a Gun License and Kept Ammunition without a Gun License”.

FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

On the 20th of January 2017 at 11:59pm, police responded to a traffic accident on Otro Benque Road where they saw Jerry Hernison MARTINEZ, 19-year-old of Trial Farm Village, lying on top of a motorcycle on the side of the road. Investigation revealed MARTINEZ collided into a lamp post and received injuries to his upper body. He was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 1:15am. The body now awaits a post mortem examination.

BELIZE DISTRICT

MURDER

On the 22nd January 2017 at around 9:25pm, police responded to a shooting incident on West Collet Canal. Investigations revealed that, at about 9:23pm, 44-year-old Clinton FRAZER and his brother, 33-year-old Michael FRAZER, were socializing with some friends under a shed when two perpetrators on two separate bicycles approached and fired several shots at them. Clinton received a gunshot injury to the back and Michael received a shot in the right leg. They were transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where Clinton succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at 9:45pm. Michael was admitted and his condition was reported as stable. Police investigations continue.
 
DRUG TRAFFICKING

On the 21st of January 2017 at 12:40pm, police were conducting mobile patrol on Raccoon Street when upon reaching the corner of Curassow Street and Raccoon Street, their attention was drawn to two male persons on separate bicycles. One of the male persons was carrying a black plastic bag as they headed towards Raccoon street. Upon noticing the marked Police mobile, the male person with the bag turned down Raccoon Street and threw away the bag. He was apprehended and the bag was retrieved. It was found to contain 437.1grams of cannabis. The 16-year-old student, of Belize City, was arrested and charged in the presence of his mother for the offence of “Drug Trafficking”.
 
FOUND PROPERTY

On the 20th of January 2017, police conducted a search in an abandoned area across from Cumberbatch Field on Caesar Ridge Road which led to the discovery of 118 grams of cannabis and a black plastic bag containing a black Smith and Wesson with no magazine. No one was in the immediate area at the time of the search the drugs and firearm were sealed and labeled as “Found Property”.
 
On the 20th of January 2017 at 2:46pm, police visited an area behind a building on Handyside Street which led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing 638 grams of cannabis. No one was in the immediate area at the time of the search and it was taken and labeled as “Found Property”.
 
KEPT AMMUNITION WITHOUT A GUN LICENSE

On the 22nd of January 2017 at 2:45pm, police conducted patrols on Faber’s Road Extension where they searched Kirk PITTS, 40-year-old of Belize City, which led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing four 9mm live rounds of ammunition and 0.7grams of cannabis. Kirk PITTS was arrested and charged for the offence of “Possession of Controlled Drugs and Kept Ammunition without a Gun License”.
 
CAYO DISTRICT

FOUND PROPERTY

On the 21st of January 2017 at 6:30pm, police were conducting vehicle checkpoint on the George Price Highway at Georgeville Village when a passenger bus arrived heading towards Belmopan. Police searched the bus and discovered a black plastic bag tucked under a spare tire located behind the last seat of the bus which contained 680gms of cannabis. It was taken and labeled as “Found Property”.
 
On the 20th of January 2017 at 3.29pm, police conducted a search in a yard on an unnamed street in Young Bank area of Camalote Village which lead to the discovery of (46) live Luger brand 9mm rounds of ammunition. No one was seen in the area at the time of the search. The ammunition was sealed and labeled as “Found Property”.

FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

On the 22nd of January 2017 at about 8:48pm, Belmopan Police visited an area near “The Mall” -between mile 55 and 56 on Hummingbird highway - where they saw a dark blue Toyota Hilux on the side of the road with damages to its front portion and under the front bumper was a black Meilun 125cc Motor Cycle with no license plate, extensively damaged. Initial investigation revealed that 43-year-old Kevin PETZOLD was driving the Toyota Hilux in a northerly direction and reportedly indicated that he was going to make a left turn into the entrance of The Mall when the black Meilun motorcycle, driven at the time by Geovannie REMUNDO, 21-year-old of San Martin Area, who was travelling in the opposite direction with Anita CANTI as his passenger, collided into the front portion of the pick-up. Geovannie received head and body injures and Anita CANTI received body injuries. Both were taken to the Western Regional Hospital where Geovannie later succumbed. Investigation continues. Blood sample was taken and a Notice of Intended Prosecution was served.
