BELIZE DISTRICT

FOUND PROPERTY

On the 19th of November 2016 at 12:30am, while police were conducting mobile patrol within the Lake Independence area, Belize City when they heard the sound of gunshots on Mahogany Street area. Checks were made at the corner of Mahogany Street and Periwinkle Street which led to the discovery of a 9mm chrome and black Taurus Pistol loaded with a magazine. It was found to contain six (6) live 9mm Luger brand of ammunition. The firearm was retrieved and labeled as Found Property.
 

On the 17th of November 2016 and the 18th of November 2016, the Southside Strike Team assisted by the K9 Unit conducted a search on an abandoned lot on Reggae Street, Belize City, that resulted in the discovery of (1) black in color 9mm Pistol with an empty magazine.

Searches conducted on an abandoned lot on Rivero Street, Belize City, led to the discovery of a bag 328.8grams of Cannabis. No one was in the immediate area, therefore the items were labeled as Found Property.

Searches conducted on an abandoned lot in the Conch Shell Bay area, Belize City, yielded a brown plastic bag containing 336 grams of Cannabis. No one was in the immediate area, therefore the items were labeled as Found Property.

Searches conducted on a lot in the Armadillo Street, Belize City, led to the discovery of multiple transparent bags containing green 321.6 grams of Cannabis. No one was in the immediate area, therefore the items were labeled as Found Property.

Searches conducted in a yard located on Banak Street led to the discovery of (1) one .380 pistol and (1) one .380 magazine which were hidden in a black plastic bag by the cement fence of the yard.

Searches conducted on West Street by the Mesopotamia Police Station led to the discovery of a black plastic bag which had in two separate black plastic bags containing 235 grams of Cannabis.

On the 17th of November 2016 at 8:30pm, police and other members of the Special Branch Tactical Response Squad conducted a search inside an unfinished concrete cement structure on George Street, Belize City, resulting in the discovery of a black plastic bag that was hidden in the concrete wall. The bag was found to contain 162 pieces of wrapped foil all containing a total of 103 grams of Cannabis.

SAN PEDRO TOWN

DRUG TRAFFICKING

On the 17th of November 2016 at around 7:00pm, police were conducting a house search for Illegal drugs and firearm at a home in Boca Del Rio, however, nothing incriminating was found. A further search of the yard led to the discovery of several parcels of cannabis under the house which amounted to 1,010 grams. Police have since detained 4 persons all of Boca Del Rio area, San Pedro town, pending investigation.

LADYVILLE VILLAGE

KEPT FIREARM WITHOUT A GUN LICENSE

On the 17th of November 2016 at around 11:56pm, police visited a residence at Saint Ann’s Village where they saw Wilfredo Allas MARTINEZ, 27-year-old Salvadoran Farmer of Maskall Village, running in some bushes behind the house and holding what appeared to be a shotgun. As a result, he was pursued and detained. Searches in the immediate area led to the discovery of (1) One 12-gauge shotgun. He was detained pending charges.

DRUG TRAFFICKING

On the 16th of November 2016 about 7:15pm, while the Belmopan Quick Response Team was conducting mobile patrol on the George Price Highway they noticed a grey Mazda taxi - heading towards Belmopan - began speeding off towards the Hummingbird highway. The taxi was pursued and police observed a brown sack was thrown from the vehicle. Police retrieved the sack which contained 1120 Kilograms (25lbs) of Cannabis. A few minutes later, the taxi was found abandoned at the entrance of St. Margret’s Village. On the 18th of November 2016 at 8:30pm, police received information which led to the arrest and detention of the driver, Bryan MOREIRA, 43-year-old of San Ignacio Town. On the 20th of November 2016, he was arrested and charged for the offence of Drug Trafficking.

STANN CREEK DISTRICT

DROWNING

On the 17th of November 2016 at about 2:35pm, Dangriga Police received information of a boat capsizing about 1 mile away from Tobacco Caye Range, Stann Creek District. Occupants of the boat were Corporal of Police Carlos GALVEZ, Police Constable David MEJIA, Mr. George LOPEZ (captain of the boat), and Linsford Joseph LOCAYO, 39-year-old Belizean Security of Dangriga Town, along with his common-law wife and their 9-month-old daughter. Initial investigation revealed that on the 17th of November 2016, they were travelling to Tobacco Caye Range when the boat was reportedly hit by a massive wave causing it to capsize. The passengers were all flung out of the boat. Cpl. GALVEZ swam to get help, however, when help arrived Joseph LOCAYO was nowhere to be seen. A search was conducted, but efforts were fruitless. On the 19th of November 2016 at about 6:41pm, police were informed by Belize National Coast Guard that a body had been found on the North-west end of Tobacco Caye Range, Stann Creek District. Police made their way to South Riverside area, Dangriga Town, where the body of a male person was handed over to them by Coast Guard personnel. The body was then transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead at 6:58pm. The body was in a state of decomposition and was later identified as that of Mr. LOCAYO. On Saturday, 19th November, 2016, a post mortem examination was conducted that certified the cause of death as Asphyxia of Fluids consistent with Drowning.

THEFT

On the 18th of November 2016 at 9:30am, a 45-year-old Businessman of Georgetown Village, Stann Creek District, reported that, on the 11th of November 2016, he received an Atlantic Bank Statement from the Placencia Branch where he observed that between the 24th of June 2016 and the 11th of November 2016 there were a total of (97) unauthorized withdrawal transactions from his Atlantic Bank account which totaled $32,007. These monies were withdrawn from his account without his knowledge or consent. Police are investigating.
