SUDDEN DEATH

On the 17th of June 2016 at 1:15am, Orange Walk Police reported that, on the 17th of June 2016 at 12:15am, a male prisoner Luis MAGANA, 29-year-old of Trial Farm Village, hung himself in the Cell Block. A police officer visited the cell located at the Orange Walk Police Station Compound where he saw MAGANA hanging from a bar of the cell. The body of Luis MAGANA was then transported to the Northern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:53am. Initial Investigation revealed that on the 16th of June 2016 at 9:34pm, MAGANA was detained as a result of a report made against him and was placed in a cell at the Orange Walk Town Police Station. Sometime around 12:15am on the 17th of June 2016, the police on duty was informed that MAGANA was seen hanging from a cloth in the cell block. The Body of Luis MAGANA awaits a postmortem examination at the Northern Regional Hospital Morgue. Police are investigating.

FOUND PROPERTY

On the 19th of June 2016 at 12:45pm, Orange Walk Police conducted a search in an unfinished cement building located on Stadium Street, Orange Walk Town. There they found a black plastic bag which contained two metal pipes adapted for use as firearm (homemade firearm) and one 12 gauge cartridge. No one was in area. Items were taken to the Orange Walk Police station where it was deposited as Found Property.

MISSING PERSON

On the 17th of June 2016 at 9:00am, Alicia CARDENAZ, 31-year-old of Macal River Street, visited the Orange Walk Police Station and reported that her common law husband 32-year-old Saul COOCH, of the same address, left home at about 7:30pm to go to Trial Farm village at his uncle to pick up some money and has not returned home. Saul was last seen in a Maroon polo shirt, grey 3/4 pants and black slippers. Saul is about 5 feet 6 inches in height, weighs about 130lbs, and has black hair and honey brown eyes. He is of clear complexion and has tattoos on both of his arms with the name Alicia. He also has a tattoo on his back with the name of his daughter "Solani". Alicia also stated that her common-law husband left on their daughter’s purple and black ladies frame beach cruiser bicycle. Police are investigating.

SAN PEDRO TOWN

FOUND PROPERTY

On Sunday, 19th June 2016, at around 5:20pm, police conducted a search on a white 18 foot vessel docked in San Pedrito area of San Pedro Town which led to the discovery of a black Glock .45 caliber with a scope attached to it. Also found were (5) five magazines and (79) seventy nine .45 hollow point live ammunition. The items were taken and deposited as Found Property.

DRUG TRAFFICKING                                      

On the 17th of June 2016 at 6:20am, Belize City Police along with assistance of the K-9 Unit executed a search at a residence on Meighan Avenue, Belize City. Present at the time of the search was Keinan BROWN, 21-year-old Belizean Mechanic of Belize City. The search resulted in the discovery of 805 grams of Cannabis. Police have since arrested and charged Keinan BROWN for the offence of Drug Trafficking.

DROWNING                          

On the 18th of June 2016 at 5:50pm, Eugenio SANTOS Jr., 29-year-old Fisherman of Sarteneja Village, Corozal District, reported that at 9:00am he was along with his father, Eugenio SANTOS Sr., 66-year-old Boat Captain of Sarteneja Village, and five other fishermen on Turniffe Island. They were all fishing inside a sailing boat when his father decided to leave along with two other fishermen in separate canoes to go fishing; leaving behind Eugenio SANTOS Jr. and two other fishermen inside the sailing boat. About an hour later, a hard rain came which caused Eugenio Jr. to not be able to take the sailing boat to meet up with his father and the two other fishermen. Minutes later after the heavy rain stopped, Eugenio Jr. took the boat about half mile ahead to make checks on his father and could not locate him. After searching for a while he saw his father’s canoe at a distance with no one inside. Upon closer inspection, he saw his father in the water with a rope wrapped around his left foot. Eugenio Jr. immediately took him out and placed him inside the boat and transported him to Belize City where he was pronounced dead at 5:30pm. The body of Eugenio SANTOS Sr. now awaits a postmortem examination.

BELIZE CITY

MURDER                               

On the 17th of June 2016 at around 8:32pm, police responded to a shooting incident on Kraal Road, Belize City, and visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw Edison WILLIAMS, 33-year-old of Belize City, suffering from multiple gunshot injuries. Investigations revealed that Edison WILLIAMS was sitting in his yard when a male person emerged from Kraal Road Alley and fired several shots at him causing the fatal injuries. Edison WILLIAMS was transported to the K.H.M.H. for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries on the 18th of June 2016 at 5:00am.

SHOOTING INCIDENT                                

On the 17th of June 2016 at about 8:20am, information was received of shots fired in front of the Queen Street, Police Station, Belize City. Investigations revealed that, at about 8:20am on the said date, Cpl. #187 Alrick ARNOLD, 34-year-old attached to the Prosecution Branch - Belize City, was walking on Queen Street heading to the Police Station. As he was about 12 feet away from the main gate of the Police Station compound, he saw a male person pointing a firearm at another male person that was walking in the opposite direction. He immediately pulled out his service 9 mm pistol and fired shots at the gunman who returned fire hitting him in the left side of chest. The perpetrator then ran towards the swing bridge while an exchange of gun fire occurred. As a result, several Police Officers pursued the perpetrator and quickly apprehended him in front of the Community Drugs Store located on Albert Street. The perpetrator was identified a 15-year-old male of Belize City. He was searched where a 9 mm Glock pistol Austra brand with (8) live rounds of ammunition was found in his pants waist. Graciela CASTILLO, 34yrs, received a gunshot wound to the left calf, Elroy SALDANO, 46yrs, received a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and Kean SMITH, 24yrs, was grazed to the left elbow during the exchange of gunfire. Both females were treated and released while the two males remained in a stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. During the exchange of fire, several vehicles were also damaged. On the 17th of June 2016, Police arrested and charged the 15-year-old  for the offences of “Kept Ammunition without a Gun License” and “Kept Firearm without a Gun License.”

HATTIEVILLE VILLAGE

MURDER

On the 18th of June 2016 at 11:55pm, Hattieville Police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw Mark SHEPARD, 23-year-old of Hattieville Village, with four gunshot wounds to the right side of his back. Initial investigation revealed that, on the mentioned date at 11:00pm, SHEPARD was inside the yard of Iguana Lounge along with his common-law -wife when two men entered the yard. One of the men took out a firearm and fired several shots towards SHEPARD causing his injuries. He was rushed to the K.H.M.H. where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Police are investigating.

PUNTA GORDA TOWN

MURDER                                                       

On the 18th if June 2016 at 11:07pm, Information was received that Francisco ACK, 36-year-old Belizean Farmer of San Benito Poite Village, Toledo District, was found within the village with multiple chop wounds. He observed to be apparently dead. At 2:00am on the 19th of June 2016, Punta Gorda Police visited San Benito Poite Village in the vicinity of the School - in some low bushes - where the body of ACK was seen lying face down with multiple chop wounds to the head, neck, back and right elbow. Initial investigation revealed that at about 9:30pm on the 18th of June 2016 Francisco ACK was going home from Church when he was attacked by two unidentified male persons who inflicted the fatal wounds to him. Police are investigating.
