Initial investigation revealed that on 13th October 2014 at about 10:00am, Erick Amelio GARCIA, Joseph HERNANDEZ and Jamal MARTINEZ left Tides Beach Resort, San Pedro, in a 15ft Fiber Glass canoe and headed north to Tres cocos area to fish. They secured the canoe and spent about two hours there fishing and diving, however, upon getting into the canoe it over turned. The sea condition got rough and the strong current took them over the reef through a channel where huge waves pushed them in different directions.
