DRUG TRAFFICKING

On 9th September 2014 at about 8pm, while police were patrolling along the river banks of the Mopan River near an area known as the plantain patch, their attention was drawn to two male persons coming from the direction of the riverside. The male persons had some black plastic bags in their hands. Upon seeing the police, they both dropped their bags. Both persons were detained and identified as Virgil PEREZ, 32 year old Police Officer of Belize City, and Melvin RUIZ, 36 year old Mason of Benque Viejo Town. Upon opening one of the plastic bags, it was found to contain a case of Black Label Rum and a case of Vodka; while the other bag contained 1,728.0 grams of suspected cannabis.  As a result, police arrested and charged Virgil PEREZ and Melvin RUIZ for the offence of Drug Trafficking.
