ORANGE WALK DISTRICT

SHOOTING INCIDENT 

On 10th July 2014 at 2:00pm, Martha Ligia SALGADO, 37 year old Nicaraguan Businesswoman of Trial Farm Village, reported that while travelling on a feeder road between Little Belize and Progresso Villages, she saw a man dressed in a camouflage long sleeved shirt, camouflaged long pants, and a rag tied over his face exit the bushes on the left hand side of the road. The male person had a long object resembling a shotgun in his hands. He was running with the gun and pointing it in her direction. At the time, he was about 15 feet away from the vehicle and on seeing this, she sped off. After a few seconds, she heard a loud bang that sounded like a gunshot. Police investigation continues.

SHOOTING INCIDENT

On 10th July 2014 at 8:55pm, police visited a residence on Lizarraga Avenue, Belize City, where they saw Godfrey JONES, 73 year old of same address, suffering from (2) apparent gunshot wounds to his knees and Darrel MAYEN, 40 year old of West Landivar, Belize City, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the right leg. Initial investigations revealed that, at around 8:45pm, Godfrey JONES, Darrel MAYEN and Christopher Antonio MAYEN were socializing in front of Christopher’s residence when two male persons - one of fair complexion who had his face covered with a white shirt armed with a handgun and another of Creole descent - entered the yard and fired several gunshots towards both male persons, causing their injuries. Both persons were taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they were admitted in a stable condition. Police investigation continues.
 
POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED DRUGS

At about 10:48am on 10th July 2014, police  visited the Belize Central Prison in Hattieville village where a prison officer handed over 25 year old Quinn ARNOLD, of Belize City, and one black plastic bag containing ‘fonto’ and green leafy vegetable substance suspected to be cannabis that was found on Quinn ARNOLD’s. The suspected cannabis amounted to 10grams.Police have since arrested and charged Quinn ARNOLD for the offence of possession of control drugs to wit: 10 grams Cannabis.
 
DRUG TRAFFICKING

At about 12:20pm on 10th July 2014, police visited the Belize Central Prison in Hattieville village where a prison officer handed over a 17-year-old female of Belize City who had brought (4) four parcels of food in foam plates for an inmate at the prison. Upon checking the food, the prison officer discovered green leafy vegetable substance suspected to be Cannabis. The drugs amounted to 127 grams. The 17-year-old was arrested and charged with (1) count of Drug Trafficking to wit: 127 grams Cannabis.
 
DANGRIGA TOWN

DROWNING

On 9th July 2014 at 5:50pm, police visited the Southern Regional Hospital where they observed the body of Channon BOWERS, 19 year old of Silk Grass Village. Initial investigation revealed that Channon BOWERS went swimming near Kendal Bridge along with family members when, at about 4:15pm on the same date, he went under the water and never resurfaced. At about 4:50pm, he was found by another family member and taken to the Southern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:50pm.
