COROZAL DISTRICT

HOUSE FIRE

On 8th July 2014, at about 9:06pm, police visited an open lot in the Finca Solana Area, Corozal Town, where they observed two plywood houses with zinc roofing engulfed in flames. The houses were about 8 feet away from each other on the same lot. One of the houses was owned by 51 year old Jaime TUN and the other by 44 year old Sandra MENENSES. Initial investigation revealed that at about 7:30pm, Jaime TUN had left his house to go to the Northern Border while MENENSES was in her house along with her seven children; when at about 9:00pm they were awaken by the fire at Jaime TUN’s house. No one was injured; however, all household appliances and furniture of both houses were destroyed by fire. The fire was extinguished by fire personnel and the cause of the fire is not yet determined. Police are investigating.

BELIZE CITY

MURDER

On 10th July 2014 at about 6:45pm, police visited a residence at the corner of Baldwin and Custard Apple Street, Belize City, where they saw the body of Dwayne HILTON, 35 year old of Belize City, with (1) apparent gunshot injury to the back of his left upper shoulder, (2) to the left arm and (1) to the left armpit. Initial investigation revealed that at about 6:30pm, HILTON was along with a 42 year old Derrick MAHLER at a yard when a dark complexion male person rode up by the entrance of the gate and fired several gunshots in their direction fatally injuring HILTON. MAHLER received (2) apparent gunshot injuries to his left leg. Three Aguila brand expended shells were retrieved from the scene. The body of Dwayne HILTON was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police investigations continue.
 

On 9th July 2014 at about 3:00pm, police visited Dyke’s site on Faber’s Road Extension, Belize City, where the lifeless body of Davee Dwayne COPIUS, 29 year old of Belize City, was seen floating face down in the lagoon about 6 feet from dry land. A cut wound to the neck measuring about 6 inches in length and (1) large cut wound to the abdomen was observed on the body. The body, retrieved from the lagoon, was in an advance state of decomposition. A postmortem examination was conducted at the scene by Dr. Mario Estrada bran; however, the cause of death is not yet ascertained and is pending further analysis. Police investigation continues.
 
POSTMORTEM EXAMINATION

On 9th July 2014, a postmortem examination was conducted on the body of Leon BURGESS, 25 year old of Belize City, which certified the cause of death to be Traumatic Shock due to multiple injuries due to multiple gunshot wounds.
 
FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

On 9th July 2014 at about 4:20pm, police visited an area between mile 2 and 3 on the Phillip Goldson Highway where they saw a male person of Indian descent (later identified as Mohan THANI, 67 year old Belizean Businessman of Belize City, lying on the highway, suffering from head and body injuries. Alexander MEJIAH, 26 year old Maintenance Worker of Belize City, reported that on 9th July 2014 at about 3:50pm he was driving motor a Mitsubishi Galant car on the highway and upon reaching between miles 2 and 3 (in front of B.E.L) he accidentally knocked down Mohan THANI. THANI, at the time, was walking across the highway. He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where at about 8:30pm on 9th July 2014, Mohan THANI succumbed to his injuries. Police have since detained Alexander MEJIAH pending charges.

THEFT

On 8th July 2014, 51 year old Belizean Sales Manager of James Brodies and Company LTD, of Regent Street in Belize City, reported that on 3rdJuly 2014 at about 10:00am, the auditor for the company conducted an audit at James Brodies and Co. LTD - situated at the Free Zone - where an amount of $17,878.66Bcy is unaccounted for.  Police are looking for a 29-year-old woman for questioning.
