COROZAL DISTRICT
 
ATTEMPT ROBBERY

On 6th July 2014 at about 10:20pm, Corozal Police responded to a report of a robbery in progress at AA Fried Chicken located on Santa Rita Road, Corozal Town. Upon arrival at the business place, police saw a Hispanic male person being detained. Initial investigations revealed that 57 year old Naturalized Belizean Businesswoman, of the said address, was outside the business establishment when suddenly two male persons arrived with black warm caps and rags tied over their faces. One of them, armed with a machete, went straight to the unlocked door and went inside. He demanded money and made chopping motions at one of the proprietors, who was chopped in his head. A struggle then ensued between the culprits and the business owners where the machete fell to the ground. One of the female persons then picked up the machete and chopped the culprit to his hand and knee. The other person made good his escape. Police investigation continues.

ORANGE WALK DISTRICT

KEPT AMMUNITION WITHOUT A GUN LICENSE

On 2nd July 2014, Orange Walk Police conducted a search inside a house on a Farm - located in the Campechito Area - two miles out of San Antonio Village, Orange Walk District. There they found a white plastic bag containing (2) 16 gauge AGUILA brand cartridges. Police have arrested and charged Landeros DIAZ for the offence of Kept Ammunition without a Gun License.
 
CULTIVATION OF CANNABIS

On 4th July 2014at 3:30pm, Orange Walk Police searched the property of Arnoldo Elijio MENDEZ located at Brazo Area, San Roman Village, where they saw two beds of marijuana plants measuring about 4 to 6 inches in height. A further search of the yard led to the discovery of 11 additional marijuana plants, measuring approximately 2 to 5 feet in height. Suspected cannabis plants were uprooted and taken to the Orange Walk Police Station. Police have since detained Arnoldo Elijio MENDEZ pending charges of Cultivation of Cannabis.
 
FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

On 5th July 2014at about 12:55am, acting on information received of a fatal traffic accident, police visited mile 56 on the Phillip Goldson Highway where they saw the body of a Hispanic male person lying on the middle of the highway with what appeared to be two broken legs, an open wound in the center of his abdomen and an open cut wound on his right leg. Also seen was a white Toyota Tacoma pickup with its entire bumper completely broken off the hood, smashed in, and the front windshield broken. Also at the scene, about 45 feet from the vehicle, was a red and grey Meilun cyclone motor cycle that was completely damaged. Initial investigation revealed that the driver of the pickup truck was Rolando SILVA, 44 year old Businessman of Los Lagos, who was driving his vehicle towards Orange Walk Town and upon reaching the curve, he attempted to overtake another vehicle and never saw an oncoming motorcycle and that was when he heard a loud bang in front of his vehicle. He immediately exited his vehicle and saw the apparent lifeless body of the male person identified as Marvin Wilfredo TILLETT, 32 year old Belizean Laborer of Trinidad Village, Orange Walk District. Police have detained Rolando SILVA, pending charges. The body of Marvin Wilfredo TILLETT was transported to the Orange Walk Hospital Morgue were it was pronounced dead at 2:50am. The body now awaits a postmortem Examination.

BELIZE DISTRICT

DRUG TRAFFICKING

On 4th July 2014 at 2:10pm, while conducting vehicle check point between miles 15 and 16 on the George Price highway, Hattieville Police noticed a cream colored car diverted back to Hattieville upon approaching the check point. Police pursued the car and found it abandoned in front of a supermarket in Hattieville. A check inside the supermarket revealed two male persons acting suspiciously. Upon searching, one of the male persons took out the car keys out of his right tennis shoe and handed it to the police. A search was then conducted in the car where two (2) sacks containing green leafy substance suspected to be cannabis were found inside the trunk. Both male persons, along with the vehicle containing the sacks of cannabis, were escorted to the Hattieville Police Station. The cannabis was weighed in their presence which amounted to 32,470grams. Police have since arrested and charge Geovanie REQUENA, 24 year old of Belize City, and Ellis REQUENA , 26 year old of Belize City, for the offence of Drug Trafficking.


On 4th July 2014 at 2:30pm, acting on information received from the Kolbe Foundation prison, police visited the institution where a prison officer handed over a pair of black Nike air tennis which had the heavy aroma of cannabis. Both tennis shoes were cut open; to which they found some green leafy substance suspected to be cannabis in the sole of the tennis. Prison authorities reported that, on 4th July 2014 at 2:15pm, Natasha LEWIS, 25 year old Belizean Domestic of Belize City, went to visit an inmate. She took the said tennis and some food on such visitation and upon conducting a routine search, the strong aroma of cannabis was identified coming from inside the tennis. Natasha LEWIS was detained and escorted by police to the Hattieville Police station where the suspected cannabis was weighed and sealed in her presence. The cannabis amounted to 109grams. Police have arrested and charged Natasha LEWIS for the offence of Drug Trafficking.
 

On 4th July 2014 at 4:20pm, Belize City Police conducted a search at an address on Antelope Street Extension, Belize City. The search was assisted by the K-9 dog, Bosco. The search resulted in the discovery of 2 small transparent ziploc bag containing a brownish substance suspected to be crack cocaine. Also found inside the premises was the following monies believed to be proceeds from the sale of drugs: (7) $100US currency, (12) $50US currency, (120) $20US currency, (26) $10US currency, (37) $5 US currency and (30) $50 Bz currency. Present at the time of the search were Mayra LOPEZ, 33 year old Salvadorian Housewife; Noe De Jesus MARTINEZ, 43 year old Salvadorian Businessman; Ardulio TORRES, 55 year old Mason; and two minors. The substance, suspected to be crack cocaine, was weighed and amounted to 1.2 grams and 1.5 grams, respectively. Police have arrested and Charged all above mentioned persons for the offence of Drug Trafficking. 

SHOOTING INCIDENT                       

On 5th July 2014 at about  8:10pm, police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw 21 year old Shane FISHER of # 53 Kelly Street, Belize City, suffering with apparent gunshot wounds to the abdomen and left side of buttocks. Initial investigation revealed that, on 5th July 2014 at about 8:00pm, Shane FISHER was standing on Dean Street, Belize City, facing “Kick Down Fence”, a Chinese Restaurant, when a creole male person approached him and fired several shots at him with a sawed off shotgun causing his injuries. FISHER was admitted to ward in a stable condition. Police are seeking this person as investigation continues.

SAN PEDRO TOWN

Preliminary Report: FIRE INCIDENT

On 6th July 2014 at about 8:45pm, information was received of a fire in the Boca Del Rio Area, San Pedro Town, in the vicinity of Compadres Bar. As a result, police arrived at the scene where they observed a wooden & concrete building engulfed in flames. Personnel from the Fire Service were present at the time and were extinguishing the fire. After the fire was extinguished, it was observed that (7) small wooden structure were destroyed, (1) concrete and wooden two storey building, (1) concrete two storey building destroyed by fire & water damage. A total of (9) nine buildings were damaged. Initial Investigation information was received from the residents in the immediate area that smoke & fire was first seen from the concrete & wooden two storey building and that the fire originated from this building. Several families were left homeless; however, there were no reported casualties. Police Investigation continues.
 
PUNTA GORDA TOWN

DRUG TRAFFICKING

On 4th July 2014 at about 2:45am, Punta Gorda Police searched the residence of 29 year old Ellie TRAPP, of Punta Gorda Town, which resulted in the discovery of a black plastic bag - containing 12 small transparent plastic bags - that contained suspected cannabis. TRAPP was escorted to the Punta Gorda Police Station along with suspected cannabis. The drug was weighed; amounting to 68.5grams. Police have arrested and charged Ellie TRAPP for the offence of Drug Trafficking.
