ORANGE WALK DISTRICT

SUDDEN DEATH

On 30th June 2014 at 2:50pm, Edmundo Pastor CABANAS of Orange Walk Town reported that, on 29th June 2014 at about 8:55pm, he was along with his wife and his 1 year 7 month old baby, Melitsa Melaney CABANAS, at a residence on Palmar Road, Orange Walk Town, when the baby took half of a pill which he had placed on a table and placed it in her mouth. Edmundo stated that a minute later he saw baby Melitsa trembling as if though she was short of breath. That was when he rushed her to the Northern Regional Hospital, Orange Walk Town, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Melitsa Melaney CABANAS’ body had no signs of bruises or abuse. 
 
POSTMORTEM EXAMINATION

At 2:30pm on 2nd July 2014, a postmortem examination was conducted on the body of Melitsa Melaney CABANAS which certified the cause of death as ‘Asphyxia by braudicel aspiration of pill medication’.
 
BELIZE DISTRICT

THEFT

A 43-year-old Belizean Businesswoman of Belize City reported that between 8:00am on 16th May 2014 and 11:30am on 2nd July 2014, someone stole $15,000.00 cash from a safety deposit box which was in the guest room of her residence. One person has since been detained, pending investigations.
 
SUDDEN DEATH

At 9:00am on 2nd July 2014, police visited the Bel-China Bridge where they saw the motionless body of Andrea Christina HERBERT, 22 year old of Belize City, floating in the Belize River. The body was retrieved and no sign of physical violence was observed. Initial investigations revealed that, at 6:00pm on 1st July 2014, HERBERT went to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in the company of her mother, as she was having an anxiety attack and complaining of breathing problems. HERBERT got tired of waiting at the hospital and left without the knowledge of her mother. That was the last time she was seen alive. The body was transported to the K.H.M.H. where it was pronounced dead. Police investigations continue.
 
BURGLARY

John WEBBER, 52 year old Canadian Construction Worker/ Insulator of Palmero Point, San Pedro Town, visited the San Pedro Police Station on 2nd July 2014 at around 10:15am and reported that, between 26th June 2014 at 12:00pm and 29th June 2014 at around 9:00am, his house was burglarized. Stolen from inside his home were an assortment of tools, electronic items, diving equipment and an outboard motor. Police investigations continue.



As a part of Operation Clear Water in San Pedro Ambergris, on 1st July 2014, Dean STAINE was arrested and charged for the Drug Trafficking of 5.35grams of pure cocaine. A motor vessel that was reported stolen from Mexico was also confiscated. Police believed that this vessel was being used to conduct illegal activities on the island.
 
CAYO DISTRICT

ROBBERY

A 46 year old Slovenian/Naturalized Belizean Businessman of Unitedville Village, Cayo District, reported that at 11:15pm on 2nd July 2014, he was at his business place ‘Brown Sugar Bar and Grill’ situated in the village, along with his wife and an employee, when two Creole descent male persons entered the establishment. One of the male persons, armed with what appeared to be a handgun, demanded their belongings. The men then took (1) Toshiba laptop, (1) Notebook Tablet, jewelry and cell phones from. While leaving the area, the men then fired several shots and made their way towards the cemetery. Police are looking for a man whom they believe can assist in their investigations.
