PROPOSED INCREASE IN FIREARMS RELATED FEES


The Ministry of Home Affairs and Belize Police Department takes this opportunity to advise holders of Firearm, Gun Dealers’, Sport Hunters Licences, and the general public of the proposed increase and application of new fees and the requirement for firearm certification. The new regiment comes into effect on a date to be announced.  The new fees will be applied to subsequent renewal of licences after the effected.  There will no requirement for persons currently licenced to pay any increase until their subsequently renewal. It is expected that a portion of the increase in fees will be applied to the Belize Police Department in its fight against illegal Firearms and Ammunition.

In addition to the changes in fees, the Ministry is recommending further amendments to the Firearms Act for increase penalties for certain firearm related offences.
