BELIZE CITY

MURDER

On the 15th of February 2017 at around 6:40pm, police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw Jason CORTEZ, 21-year-old of Belize City, with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, abdomen, back and buttocks. Investigations revealed that CORTEZ was walking on Western Avenue, at around 6:25pm, when he was approached by a lone perpetrator who fired several shots at him causing his fatal injuries. CORTEZ was rushed to the K.H.M.H., but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at 6:44pm. One person has been detained for questioning as investigations continue.

SHOOTING INCIDENT

At around 8:30pm on the 15th of February 2017, Nigel WILLIAMS, 25-year-old of Belize City, had reportedly just left a grocery shop at miles 8 on the George Price Highway and was walking towards his aunt’s home near the Hydro area on the highway when he noticed that he was being followed by three men. He reportedly started to run towards his aunt’s home when one of the men starting shooting at him which caught him in his right thigh. He reportedly escaped from them by running in a swampy area. Police investigations continue.

RAPE
 
A 15-year-old girl, in the company of a parent, reported that on the 14th of February 2017 at about 10:00am, she was at a house located in Benque Viejo, along with two (2) male friends where they were reportedly drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. She recalled that after having her first drink, she reportedly began feeling dizzy and weak and could not recall what happened next. It was not until 7:30pm that day, she was awakened by a male person who reportedly found her in a room on the floor still groggy. She was taken to a doctor who certified that she had been carnally known. Police are seeking the (2) male friends. Investigation is being conducted by both the Police and Human Services Departments.
