COROZAL DISTRICT

SHOOTING INCIDENT

At about 5:15am on 1st November 2014, Corozal Police visited the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk Town where they saw Ricardo Alfredo ITZAB, 24 year old Belizean of Concepcion Village, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Initial investigations revealed that, between 1:00am and 1:30am on the 1st November 2014, ITZAB and two other male persons were walking on the highway, heading towards their homes between miles 76 and 77 on the Phillip Goldson Highway, when they were approached by a lone bicycle rider, dressed in dark clothing and wearing a mask. The lone rider fired a single gunshot in their direction causing injuries to Ricardo Alfredo ITZAB. As a result, he was rushed to the Corozal Community Hospital and then transferred to the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk Town where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 4:35am. Police investigation continues.

LADYVILLE VILLAGE

FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

On 2nd November 2014 at 2:40am, police responded to a traffic accident between miles 5 and 6 on the Phillip Goldson Highway in the vicinity of the Haulover Bridge, where they saw a cream Lincoln MKZ car, about 20 feet off the highway in the mangroves, with extensive damages. Ryan MARTINEZ, 24 year old Belizean Civilian Prosecutor of Ladyville, and Irene SANCHEZ, 22 year old of San Lazaro Village, were seen trapped inside the vehicle. Initial investigation revealed that they were travelling from Belize City to Ladyville when after passing the Haulover Bridge; the driver lost control of the car and ran off the highway, hitting a tree in the mangrove area. Ryan MARTINEZ and Irene SANCHEZ were taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where Irene SANCHEZ was treated for her injuries. However, Ryan MARTINEZ was pronounced dead on arrival. The body now awaits a postmortem examination. Police are investigating

BELIZE DISTRICT

DRUGS FOUND

On 1st November 2014, Belize City Police conducted a search in an abandoned lot located on Eve Street, Belize City. The search led to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing 63 grams of a green leafy vegetable substance, suspected to be cannabis. No one was in the immediate area. The drug was labeled and deposited as found property. 
 
DRUG TRAFFICKING

On 1st November 2014 at about 6:30pm, Belize City Police conducted a search at the residence of Patricia GRANT located in Belize City. Present at the time of the search were Tariq GRANT, Steve LUCAS, Jason GENTLE, Cleveland LOPEZ, Arthur SMITH, Patricia GRANT, Aaron CRUZ, Michael GRAHAM and Austin GRANT. The search led to the discovery of 81.6 grams of suspected cannabis. All persons were escorted to the police station and charged for Drug Trafficking.
 
SUDDEN DEATH

At about 7:50am on 3rd November 2014, police visited an area around mile 19 on the Old Northern Highway where they saw Gilbert DAWSON, 61 year old of Gardenia Village, lying on the side of the highway, near his vehicle, apparently dead. No foul play was suspected, but police investigations continue.

FOUND PROPERTY

On 2nd November 2014 at about 11:30am, police conducted a search in an empty lot located on Victoria Street. The search led to the discovery of two black plastic bags under a white piece of plywood. One of the black plastic bags contained two black plastic bags of a green leafy vegetable substance suspected to be cannabis. The other black plastic bag contained a black 9mm pistol and an empty magazine. No one was in the immediate area at the time of the discovery. Both bags were taken to Precinct 3. The drugs were weighed and amounted to 222 grams of cannabis. Both items were labeled and deposited as Found Property.

SAN IGNACIO TOWN

POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED DRUGS

On 30th October 2014 at about 2:30pm, San Ignacio Police was on mobile patrol within Santa Elena when their attention was drawn to a grey Jeep Cherokee which was parked in front of a restaurant in Santa Elena. The vehicle was escorted to the station, for a search, along with the rest of the occupants. At the station a further search of the vehicle was conducted which led to the discovery of a transparent plastic bag containing a hard substance suspected to be crack cocaine. The drug was weighed and amounted to 14.4grams. Police then arrested and charged Therese Jennifer SOTO, 28 year old of St. Matthew’s village, with the offence of Possession of a Controlled Drug with Intent to Supply.

STANN CREEK DISTRICT

FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

At 6:55am on 2nd November 2014, Intermediate Southern Formation Police responded to a motor cycle accident in the Banana Farm area located on the outskirts of Bella Vista Village, Stann Creek District, where they saw Juan Emilio Gutierrez AVENDAÑO, 30 year old Salvadoran Laborer of Cowpen Village, lying face down in a drain with severe back injury. He was observed to be apparently dead. Next to him was a red and black Meilun motor cycle. Initial investigation revealed that at about 6:30am, Juan AVENDAÑO was traveling on his motor cycle from the direction of Banana Farm four heading towards Banana Farm two, but collided into a drain that separates the two banana farms and as a result, he died on the spot.
