ROBBERY

On 30th September 2014 at about 11:30am, Lavish Store on Albert Street was robbed by two armed men who made off with $1,600.00 cash and a phone valued at $1,000.00. Police are following several leads as investigation continues.

 

On 30th September 2014 at about 4:00pm, a Western Diaries delivery truck was robbed at gunpoint in the Lords Bank area where over two hundred dollars was stolen. Police have since detained one man and retrieved (1) .9mm weapon along with 15 rounds of ammunition. Police investigations continue.

EXTORTION

On 23rd September 2014 at about 5:01pm, a 17-year-old male, along with his mother, reported to San Pedro Police that between 2:00am and 6:00am on 22nd September 2014, his Mother Mirna Judith BERGANZA was detained at the San Pedro Police Station for Traffic Offences. As a result, he and a family friend visited the Station whereby the friend spoke to Police Constable Oscar RAMIREZ, who demanded $300.00 for the release of Mirna BERGANZA. The same Police Constable later demanded $700.00 more for her release. He further stated that a total of $600.00 was given to P.C. RAMIREZ for the release of his Mother. Police have since arrested and charged Police Constable #1139 Oscar RAMIREZ, 36 year old of San Pedro Town, for the crime of Extortion.

SAN IGNACIO TOWN

FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

On 30th September 2014 at 2:00pm, police visited an area on Center Road, Spanish Lookout Community, with its junction with Western Dairies, where they saw a white Toyota Pickup with Guatemala license plates parked at the entrance to Western Diaries with a dent on its passenger side door. About 10 feet away, police saw a blue Meilun scooter ML100 lying almost in the middle of Center Road. Initial investigation revealed that sometime around 1:00pm on 30th September 2014, the pickup which was driven at the time by Oscar PEREZ Sr., of Benque Viejo Town, was exiting the Western diaries parking area when the motorcycle - that was traveling a north to south direction - collided into the door area of the pickup. Oscar PEREZ Sr. received injuries to his left upper arm and back and complained of severe pain. As a result of the impact, the cyclist, identified as Heber FLORES, 23 year old of Santa Elena Town, was flung from the motorcycle. FLORES received serious head injury and was rendered unconscious. He was taken to the Belmopan Western Regional Hospital for treatment and was later transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries. His body now lies at the morgue awaiting a postmortem examination. Police investigation continues.
