BELIZE CITY

SHOOTING INCIDENT

On 10th June 2014 at 8:10am, police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw 30-year-old Rafael CRUZ, Belizean Construction Worker of Belize City, suffering from gunshot wounds to the right side of his abdomen, right side of chest, left side of abdomen and left shoulder. Initial investigation revealed that on the said date at 8:03am, CRUZ was riding his bicycle on Vernon Street, Belize City when upon reaching in front of Mendoza's Automotive business establishment, two male persons of dark complexion on a motorcycle approached him from behind and fired several shots at him causing his injuries. He was transported to the K.H.M.H. in a stable condition. Police investigations continue.

ATTEMPT MURDER

On 10th June 2014 at 2:00pm, police visited the Western Regional Hospital where they saw 43-year-old Luis GUEVARA, Belizean Laborer of Valley of Peace, suffering from a stab wound to the right upper chest. Initial investigations revealed that, on said date at 2:00pm, GUEVARA was at home at Santos Amaya’s farm (located 4 miles north of Valley of Peace) when he was approached by 75-year-old Sotero CRUZ, Belizean Farmer of Valley of Peace, who inflicted a single stab wound to him for no apparent reason after which he made good his escape. GUEVARA is now admitted in a stable condition. Police investigations continue.



**NOTICE

In order to identify the best applicants, who demonstrate that they have what it takes to become an effective police officer that is capable of policing a modern society, the National Police Training Academy will now prepare and administer the recruit entrance exam. The exam is designed to evaluate the applicant’s knowledge, skills and abilities to be a successful Police Officer. For example, applicants must be able to read and comprehend material relating to policing and its procedures. Therefore, part of the written exam will contain a section on reading comprehension - similar to what the applicants will read on the job. In other words, the entrance exam will be relevant to skills, knowledge and abilities that are needed to be an effective police officer; no prior law enforcement experience is required.
 
In light of the above, in order to assist applicants in preparation for the upcoming police entrance exam which is tentatively set for 26th July 2014, the Academy will now issue applicants with a study guide that has in sample questions. Also, they will be offering tutorials starting this Saturday, 14th June 2014, to explain to the applicants what will be tested on the exam.
 
The entrance exam will cover four areas:
1)  Math Skills
2) Reading Comprehension Skills
3) Language Skills
4) Writing Skills
 
All content tested will be relevant to policing.
