BELIZE DISTRICT

ROBBERY                             

On 5th May 2014 at about 10:00am, Delmar LANZA, Belizean Manager of Belize City, reported that on 4th May 2014 at about 8:00am he was sitting inside his vehicle while parked in front of a shop on Lakeview Street in Belize City when a male person of fair complexion grabbed his half inch thick gold chain with cross medal from his neck. The person pulled the chain from around his neck with a force that caused scratches on the complainant’s neck. A struggle ensued between them which eventually ended on the ground. While on the ground, the male person punched him and another male person of dark complexion arrived and held his hand and started to kick him on his head. While he was being assaulted the other person managed to break the gold chain off his neck. Both thieves then left the area running, making good escape. Police have since detained a 22 year old man and are seeking another as investigations continue.
 
MURDER/ATTEMPTED MURDER

Acting on information received of shots fired on Antelope Street Extension, on 2nd May 2014 at about 10:30pm, C.I.B. personnel visited an apartment building located on Antelope Extension where inside an apartment they saw the body of Julian WILLOUGHBY, 24 year old of Antelope Extension, Belize District, lying face up on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper part of the body. Further checks were made at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where the following persons, all of Belize City were seen: 21-year-old Chris REYES with (1) apparent gunshot wound to the left upper arm and (1) apparent gunshot wound to the left upper chest,  a 14 year old male student with (1) apparent gunshot wound to the left leg, 20 year old Phillipa RAMIREZ with (1) apparent gunshot wound to the left side of the jaw and 18 year old Francisco RIVAS with (1) apparent gunshot wound to the left upper back. Initial investigations revealed that, on 2nd May 2014 at about 10:20pm, all persons mentioned above were socializing in front of the apartment building when two male persons approached them and one fired several shots at them causing their injuries. The perpetrators then ran towards the direction of Pitter Street where they boarded a black car and escaped. Julian WILLOUGHBY was pronounced dead at 11:40pm. The body of Julian WILLOUGHBY now lies at the K.H.M.H. morgue awaiting a postmortem examination. At the scene (2) Aguila brand .9mm expended shells and (5) Aguila brand .9mm live rounds were found. The other victims were listed in a stable condition at the KHMH. One person has been detained as police investigations continue

SAN PEDRO TOWN

THEFT

On 2nd May 2014 at 7:00am, (8) .38 revolvers and (101) .38 live rounds, all property of KBH Security, that were secured at the San Pedro Police Station in a metal safe were reported stolen. Police have since launched an investigation and have recovered two of the 8 missing firearms in Belize City, Police have also arrested and charged Yannick WADE, 27 year old Belizean Police Officer of Belize City, for the offence of two counts Kept Firearm without a Gun License and two counts of Kept Ammunition without a Gun License. He is also being additionally charged for the crime of theft by San Pedro Police. Police investigations continue.

SUDDEN DEATH

On 2nd May 2014 at about 7:58pm, police were called to the residence of Alton ALVAREZ, 45 year old Superintendent of Police and Officer Commanding Intermediate Southern Formation (I.S.F), as it was reported he was complaining of pain to his body. He was taken to Independence Poly Clinic accompanied by his son and common law wife. He was attended to and discharged from the poly clinic an hour later. However, on his way home, he started to complain of shortness of breath. He was immediately taken back to the polyclinic where they tried to resuscitate him, but to no avail. Supt. Alton ALVAREZ was pronounced dead at 11:00pm on 2nd May 2014. His body was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital morgue and then to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where it awaits a postmortem examination. The Police Department sends condolences to his family and friends, he will be surely missed.

SAN IGNACIO TOWN

MURDER

On 3rd May 2014 at 2:10pm, Police, with the assistance of Belize Defence Force, visited Valentine Camp where at about 3 kilometers north of Kaldin, Guatemala City, they discovered the body of a Hispanic male person dressed in black pants and a shirt. The body was identified as that of Heber De Jesus Tzin ALVARADO, 47 year old Guatemalan Farmer of Dolores, Guatemala City. Physical checks made on the body led to the discovery of apparent gunshot wounds to the left side of the ribcage area; (1) to the left leg, (1) to the left side of the head and one to the mid portion of the back area. Also found in the area were two 9mm expended shells that were seen about 3 feet away from the body. Initial investigations revealed that ALVARADO was last seen alive on 28th April 2014, at about 10:30am, in the village and was discovered dead on 1st May 2014, at about 8:30am. Police investigation continues.
